About the Symposium

The Third UMS Research Symposium 2025 (UMS-ReS3) continues the success of its predecessors. These symposia have established a vital platform for Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) researchers to share findings, foster collaboration, and strengthen our research culture. This year, UMS-ReS3 aims to build on this foundation with a sharpened focus on two critical university objectives: Ensuring the timely progress of funded research and elevating our publication performance.

1. Monitoring Research Progress
UMS-ReS3 provides a structured forum for recipients of UMSGreat and Dana Kluster grants to present their latest progress. This session is designed to keep research projects on track, ensure alignment with original objectives, and facilitate valuable peer and expert feedback. By presenting interim results and methodological developments, researchers can refine their approaches, proactively address challenges, and enhance the overall quality and impact of their final outcomes. The symposium thus acts as a key accountability mechanism, promoting excellence from inception to completion.

2. Increasing Publication in MyCITE Indexed Journals
A primary objective of UMS-ReS3 is to directly address the strategic need to increase the number of UMS publications in MyCITE-indexed journals. While the university has maximized its assessment marks for publications in international databases like Scopus and Web of Science (WoS), contributions to MyCITE represent a significant opportunity for growth. Given the substantial weight of MyCITE publications in national research assessments, this symposium is designed to actively bridge this gap. We urge participants to view their presentations as a critical step toward manuscript development. To facilitate this, all presenters are strongly encouraged to submit their full papers to the organizer for consideration in affiliated MyCITE-indexed journals. This targeted effort is essential for boosting UMS's performance in key national evaluations and expanding the reach of our research within Malaysia.
